Industrial ecology, businesses and green activists are beginning to gather the environmental impact of our every decision and giving that information to us in a user-friendly way. That is a basic example of Ecological Intelligence. My ecological intellegence is a bit higher than the average human being but I don't know to well about this kind of stuff.

I believe this TIME article is heavily abusing the term "Industrial Ecology". Their claim that we can actually be fully aware of the total environmental consequences of our actions is unrealistic and certainly NOT what Industrial Ecology is about. In fact it is elementary knowledge of any "Industrial Ecologist" that this is simply not possible and what you would learn in any Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) introductory course is that the main disadvantage of the LCA method is that it cannot be applied within too broad system boundaries because it becomes huge and highly complicated.
In fact what Industrial Ecology represents is a radical shift in the modern scientific way of thinking. This article is the result of that way of thinking: That through analytical tools and by applying math and physicochemical laws you can have a full awareness of your environment.
