semester 2 blog 5

Write out three "pitches" for three different Ampersand articles that you might write for this year's publication.

1st: Reliving the school life but as a teacher.

2nd: Knowing and experiencing the feeling of the students and how they depend on you.

3rd: How not only the students me, myself grew through this experience.

Challenge: What did you dream last night?

Last night I dreamt that I was in this orphanage, though I have no clue why. I remember though that the walls were a light blue and the kids that were also in the orphanage would give me weird looks. I had the weirdest feeling that this wasn’t the first time that I had been here. After one of the kinder caretakers had shown me to my room, I decided to explore my new home. My feet carried themselves to a pair of old brown doors that clashed against the light blue walls of the orphanage. Opening them I saw a short flight of stairs that lead to a dimly lit underground basement with a low ceiling. As I enter the eerie abyss. I remember the kids that were playing little games with abilities that they each had. I remembered that I had seen this place in other dreams, it was a safe haven for those whose parents had abandon them because of their abilities. I also had abilities yet I couldn’t remember what they were. I suddenly asked if a character whom I was quite fond of was there. With sad looks they said he had died. (this character whom I believe was named either Chris or Paul resembles a look a lot like Chris Colfer from Glee.) Heartbroken I sat in my room with despair. After several days I re-entered the basement with the sudden feeling that he wasn’t really dead but there was only one way to make sure. One of the kids has this ability to make an object, if desired, send out sonic waves that can do everything from making earthquakes to picking up the position of even the smallest objects. Using that object I found this character who was about the size of the tip of my pinky and was a violent purple color. He confirmed my suspicions because in a pervious dream he was a frightening enemy whom I killed in the end. After questioning him, I discovered that not only was he a good guy now he knew what had happed to Chris. Suddenly a nun whom worked at the orphanage had brought the father of Chris who said he would help bring Chris back. In the end the father died saving Chris form this parallel universe. It was days until Chris finally came back home. He was notably a foot taller than me and his hair was now in a pony tail. After we hugged in pure joy of seeing each other, I woke up.

My challenge for all you who read this article, is to write about a dream either recent or that you remember well and then to challenge other readers to do the same.

Quote Attack!!

"Hope lies not in the words on paper but in the hearts of people."

This is a good example of how I can write my article and how I should form it. This article mainly focuses on what it feels like to go back to the classroom experience of elementary school yet showing the teachers side. This article also connects a lot with my mentor interview and how the life of a teacher is just as stressful as the students.

This article is about how not only the kids grew but the author grew from the teaching experiences. It showed that even the teacher can learn with the student. My picture essay focused on that detail of grow from the teaching experience.

This is a good example of positive things you feel when teaching. You get a grasp of how much the students depend on you when your teaching. I feel that I would like my article to be on this subject because i want to interest my readers on the rewarding benefits of the teaching job.

Semester 2 blog 3

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopfeatures/7928784/Bill-Withers-interview.html

The author starts off the interview with telling it like a story, bringing it to an interview, then having it go back to being a story. Some writing techniques that were displayed in this story were quotes, information shared about not only the one character who was being interviewed but about others as well. The overall piece was the perfect example of a concert or a loop. The introduction is very abrupt and to the point about the idea behind the article, even on the very first sentence.

http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/steve-jobs-in-1994-the-rolling-stone-interview-20110117

The author begins with looking at the dark moments in the characters life. the writing becomes a biography on Job's and Apple and how they have both grown throughout the years. There were a lot of numbers, dates, ages, and facts thrown around. While that can be a good thing we want to maintain the readers attention and this article got me bored very quickly. The set up was very much like an interview and while I want to get my facts out with some times and dates I want to maintain my readers attention a part of this article which will not be seen in my interview.

The Knot In The Buisness Industry

The Knot In The Business Industry or 'The Noose' as I like to call it is this representation of how money in the business industry flows. We spend so much of our money by putting companies over seas and paying workers minimal wage that we don't even realize we aren't getting our money back at an even flow. This is because we get more of what we paid for and most of our money stays circulating in foreign countries instead of circulating back to us. So eventually we will be so broke we will basically be the ones working for china making ipods.

What have you read lately (say, since last semester), that you found interesting?
Why did it catch your attention?

I am reading Eragon and it really caught my attention not only because it was 25 cents, but because it caught me the moment I read the first page of the first chapter. I wasn't bored with reading it 5 minutes in and wanted to read it more. For me it is very rare to find a book like that and so I really like this book.

Semester 2 blog 1

What are the big ideas that you are taking from internship into the next steps in your life?

I am taking the experience of a career as a teacher and as a parent because this job has prepared me for the crazy, wild, wacky things that kids will throw at me.

What are your plans for the coming semester?

For this coming semester I am planning to look at a lot of colleges, study like crazy, and maybe find a second job for the weekends.
